Parks and Natural Areas of Spain
It became almost monthly stamps and National Parks that are part of Spain's national heritage. I had already published a letter with a stamp issued in May 2010 dedicated National Park Gara jonay which can be found here . Three national parks
showing topographic features and a wide variety of ecosystems are included in the series issued on 19/07/2010 devoted to natural sites in Spain:
- The National Park Picos de Europa
- Park National Monfragüe
- The National Park of Sierra Nevada
The National Park Monfragüe is located between the cities of Plasencia and Trujillo (Caser) and extends over 18 000 hectares. Dominated by large rocks and peaks, this park is one of the most representative of Mediterranean forests and scrublands. Shaded areas are home to a forest where live arbutus, laurel, heather, oak and cork oak. On the sunny side, there are oaks and wild olive trees and rock roses, rosemary and lavender butterfly. There are over 250 species of vertebrates, including the vulture, Egyptian vulture, imperial eagle, golden eagle, black stork and owl. Among mammals, there are wild boar, roe deer, lynx, wild cat and genet. It was declared a park National in 2007.
The stamp € 0.45 illustrates an example of the 250 species in this park contained in the background. Thanks to Jose-
